  • 1720 – The third Stockholm Treaty was signed between Sweden and Denmark.
  • 1752- The French army surrendered to the British in Tiruchirappalli.
  • 1815: Luxembourg freed from the control of France.
  • 1898: China gives Hong Kong lease to Britain for 98 years.
  • 1923 – The military coup overturned in Bulgaria. Prime Minister Alexander Stankovski Osters was killed on June 14.
  • 1931 – Donald Duck cartoon debuted for the first time.
  • 1934- The cartoon character Donald Duck first appeared in the animation film “The Wise Little Hen” by Disney Waugh.
  • 1940 – Norway surrendered before Germany during World War II.
  • 1941 – 1500 people died in an explosion in a weapon factory located in the Fort Smedaro region of Belgrade, capital of the European country of Serbia.
  • 1944: Russia invades Finland’s Kerava region.
  • 1949 – Dr Kiran Bedi, the first woman officer to be included in the Indian Police Service was born.
  • 1960: 1600 people died due to cyclonic storm Mary in China.
  • 1964: Lal Bahadur Shastri becomes the second Prime Minister of India.
  • 1975 – The proceedings of the Parliament of the UK began on a live broadcast for the general public.
  • 1983 – The Conservative Party has won the majority for the second consecutive general elections under the leadership of Margaret Thatcher.
  • 2001: The pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi win the French Open title.
  • 2008 – Union Territory Administration declares Chandigarh to be tobacco free.
  • 2011: MF Hussain, who was a painter and film director, passed away.
  • 2011: Six women were arrested for driving in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.
  • 2011 – The world’s first prosthetics was implanted in the shortest time. The breathing hose in it was changed.

  • 1975 – Andrew Symonds, Australian cricket player was born.
  • 1976 – Amisha Patel Indian actress was born.
  • 1985 – Sonam Kapoor Indian actress was born
  • 1981 – Anushka Shankar was born as an Indian sitar and musician. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar.
